Earth Capital Nexus develops the evidence, instruments and policy pathways required to unlock large-scale public and private finance for nature protection, restoration and resilience.

Context: why scale up capital to strengthen nature capital and resilience?

Recognising risk is necessary. Redirecting capital is decisive.

Despite growing commitments, financial flows for climate, nature and sustainable development remain vastly inadequate, particularly in emerging markets and developing economies. At the same time, harmful subsidies and misaligned incentives continue to channel capital into activities that erode natural systems.

Our work on mobilising finance

We collaborate with financial institutions, regulators and governments to:

  • Develop blueprints and partnerships to unlock large-scale public and private finance
  • Explore how innovations in data and AI can support the design of financial instruments that mobilise capital for nature and adaptation
  • Analyse sovereign sustainability-linked finance tied to resilience and nature outcomes
  • Evaluate and design blended finance vehicles and global facilities for critical ecosystems
  • Produce evidence to promote supportive prudential and regulatory treatment of resilience-linked instruments.

We examine not only financial structure but also incentive design – aligning policy, regulation and capital markets to reduce systemic risk and enhance long-term returns.
